We rebuilt our onboarding around one question: what does a new customer need to see in their first 10 minutes? Three screens went, one checklist came in. Support tickets in week one fell by a third. The full write-up is in the comments.

LinkedIn formats

What you can publish to LinkedIn

Each format is checked against LinkedIn’s own rules while you write, so problems show up in the composer instead of at publishing time.

  • Post

Text, with an image or a video

  • Multi-image post

Up to 9 images in one post

  • Video

    One video with your post

How it works

From draft to live on LinkedIn

  1. 1

    Connect LinkedIn

Sign in with LinkedIn and your profile connects straight away. Company pages you administer are coming soon, each as its own channel.

  2. 2

    Write for the feed

LinkedIn gives you 3,000 characters and folds the post after the first few lines. The preview shows where “see more” lands, so the opening line does its job.

  3. 3

    Get it approved

If the workspace needs approval, the post waits for the right person, who can approve it or send it back with a comment. An approval covers the exact version that was reviewed, so an edit afterwards goes back for review.

  4. 4

    Publish with the first comment

Postivate posts at the time you set and adds your first comment right after, which is where many people keep the link.

Every profile on the team, side by side

The same news often goes out from a few people on the team, in slightly different words. Connect each profile as its own channel and give each one its own version of the post. Company pages will join the same way soon.

  • A separate version per channel

Links and sources in the first comment

Keep the post for the story and put the link, the source or the sign-up form in a comment. Postivate adds up to 5 comments of 1,250 characters each, with an image on any of them, in order.

  • Up to 5 comments per post
  • 1,250 characters each
  • One image per comment

Choose who sees a profile post

For personal profiles, choose per post between anyone on LinkedIn and your connections only. Company page posts are always public.

LinkedIn analytics

See how every LinkedIn post did.

LinkedIn shares less with scheduling apps than the other networks: reactions and comments for each post. That’s what Postivate shows, kept apart from the networks that report more, so nothing is padded with numbers LinkedIn never sent.

Good to know

Before you schedule for LinkedIn

A few things about how LinkedIn works with scheduling apps, from what we’ve learned building for it.

  • The opening lines decide it

LinkedIn shows two or three lines before “see more”. Put the point there and let the detail follow for the people who click.

  • Images or a video, not both

A LinkedIn post carries either up to 9 images or one video. If you have both, split them across two posts or move the extra into a comment.

  • Company pages are on the way

Posting as a company page is coming soon. When it arrives, your LinkedIn account will need an admin role on the page that allows posting, so check that now if the page is yours to run.

  • Expect lighter analytics

LinkedIn only shares reactions and comments for posts with apps like Postivate. For impressions and clicks, the page’s own analytics in LinkedIn have the full picture.

Beyond LinkedIn

One workflow for every network.

LinkedIn is one channel in Postivate. Write once, give each network its own version, and keep approvals, the calendar and the results in one place.

LinkedIn FAQ

Scheduling on LinkedIn, answered.

Can I schedule posts to a LinkedIn company page?

Not yet: company pages are coming soon. You’ll connect the pages where you have an admin role that allows posting, and each page will be its own channel.

Can I schedule posts to my personal LinkedIn profile?

Yes. Your profile connects when you sign in with LinkedIn.

Can I add a first comment on LinkedIn?

Yes. Add up to 5 comments of up to 1,250 characters, each with an optional image. They’re posted right after the post, in order.

How many images can a LinkedIn post have?

Up to 9 images, or one video.

Can I post to connections only?

Yes, for personal profiles: choose “Connections only” in the post’s LinkedIn settings. Company page posts are public.

Which LinkedIn analytics do I get?

Reactions, comments and total engagements for each post. LinkedIn doesn’t share impressions or clicks with scheduling apps for these posts.

Can different profiles post different text?

Yes. Each connected profile is its own channel, and each can have its own version of the post. Company pages will work the same way.
