The composer

A social media post composer that gets every network right.

Start with one post, then give any account its own version. Every part is checked against each network’s rules while you write, and the preview shows how it will look before anyone hits schedule.

Per-account versions

One post. A version for every account.

Write the shared post first. When one account needs something different, open its tab and edit: Postivate copies the post into a version just for that account, and the rest keep using the shared one.

  • Customize the text, media, comments or replies, and their timing, per account
  • Formats and network settings are set per account too
  • A dot marks every account with its own version
  • “Back to global content” drops a version when you no longer need it

Six months, 40 fabric samples and one rainy test week in Bergen. On Thursday our autumn collection goes live. Here’s what we learned about building clothes that last, and why we cut our color range in half to get there.

Live checks

Problems show up while you write, not after it fails.

Each part of the post has a counter measured against the strictest account it goes to, and a check that lists every account’s count against its own limit. The same rules run again when you schedule and right before publishing.

  • Text length, with 25,000 characters for X Premium accounts
  • How many photos and videos each network takes, and video length
  • What each format needs: a Reel needs one video of at least 3 seconds, a Story one image or video
  • How many comments or replies, and empty or unfilled parts
  • Too many photos for X? “Continue in replies” moves the extra ones into the thread, for X only

Previews

See it the way your audience will.

The preview draws each network’s own layout for every account you picked, so you can check the fold, the order and the media before it goes out.

  • Where Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and X fold the text behind “See more”
  • Threads with their connecting line, and first comments under the post
  • Instagram carousels with their arrows and dots, and Reel and Story layouts for Instagram and Facebook
  • Who can reply on X, Threads and Bluesky, content warnings on Mastodon, and Connections-only posts on LinkedIn

Threads, comments and formats

Threads and first comments, written with the post.

Add replies to build a thread on X, Threads, Bluesky or Mastodon, or comments that go out under a LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram post. Each one can wait after the one before it, and they go out strictly in order.

  • A thread of up to 25 posts on X, Bluesky and Mastodon and 10 on Threads; up to 5 comments elsewhere
  • Wait from 1 minute to 24 hours between entries, or post them right away
  • Post or Reel on Instagram and Facebook, and “Also share as a Story”
  • Per-network settings: who can reply on X, Threads and Bluesky, LinkedIn visibility, Reels in the Instagram feed, silent posts on Telegram, content warnings on Mastodon, boards and links on Pinterest, who can view and branded content labels on TikTok, tags and the queue on Tumblr

Templates · Pro and Business

Templates for the posts you write every week.

Save a post as a template and mark the parts that change as fields. Using it asks for the values with a live preview, and its formats come along for every network.

  • Text, long text and link fields, required or optional, with defaults
  • Leave a field for later: the composer highlights it and won’t publish it empty
  • Save any post as a template, from the composer or the post page
  • Create posts from templates over the API and MCP too

AI in every entry

An assistant on every part of the post.

Each part of the post, replies and comments included, has an AI button that follows your Brand Profile. What comes back is a suggestion: replace the text, insert it below or discard it.

  • Quick edits

Rewrite, shorten, expand or improve any part of the post, or suggest hashtags for it.

  • Tone and language

Switch between six tones, from professional to witty, or translate into eight languages.

  • Adapt for channels

One click writes a version for each selected network. Undo puts everything back.

  • Write new or repurpose

Start from a short brief, or paste an article or notes and get a post out of it.

Built for teams

From draft to published, nothing gets lost.

  • Saves as you type

Drafts save on their own, and every saved change becomes a new revision with who made it and when.

  • No silent overwrites

If a teammate changed the same post, Postivate stops and lets you load the latest version first.

  • One time, your time zone

Pick a date, time and time zone for the whole post. Move a single channel later from the post page or by dragging it in the calendar.

  • Approval when it’s required

In workspaces that need approval, send it for review with a note and the time you want. Once it’s approved, it’s queued for that time.

  • Edit, reschedule or duplicate

Unlock a scheduled post to change it and schedule it again. Published posts stay as they went out; duplicate one to reuse it.

  • Retries and fixes

Busy networks are retried on their own. If a network rejects the content, “Fix in a new draft” reopens only the accounts that failed.

Network limits

What each network takes.

The numbers the composer checks against, straight from Postivate’s channel rules.

Composer FAQ

Writing posts in Postivate, answered.

Can I write one post and change it for each network?

Yes. Write the post once and pick the accounts it goes to. Open any account to customize it: Postivate copies the post into a version just for that account, with its own text, media, comments or replies and delays. Accounts you leave alone keep using the shared post, and you can send a customized account back to it at any time.

How does Postivate check character limits?

Every part of the post has its own counter, measured against the strictest limit among the accounts that publish it. A check next to it lists each account’s count against its limit. X Premium accounts get 25,000 characters instead of 280; Postivate reads the account’s tier when you connect it.

What does the composer check before I can schedule?

Text length, how many photos and videos a post can have, whether the network takes video, video length, what each format needs (a Reel needs one video of at least 3 seconds, a Story one image or video), how many comments or replies you add, empty entries and unfilled template fields. Problems block scheduling and say what to fix, and Postivate checks again right before publishing.

Can I see how the post will look before it goes out?

Yes. The preview draws each network’s own layout for every selected account, including where the text folds behind “See more”, carousels, threads, first comments, and Reel and Story layouts for Instagram and Facebook. It’s an approximation of the native look; videos show their first frame.

Can I add a first comment or turn a post into a thread?

Yes. On LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram you can add up to 5 comments that go out after the post. On X, Bluesky and Mastodon you can build a thread of up to 25 posts, and on Threads a chain of up to 10. Telegram, Pinterest and Tumblr have no threads or comments, and TikTok posts go out without them. Each one can wait after the previous one, from 1 minute to 24 hours. If a comment or reply fails, the ones after it are skipped so nothing posts out of order.

Which formats can I publish?

Posts on every network, with up to 4 photos or videos on X, Bluesky and Mastodon, 9 on LinkedIn and 10 on Facebook, Instagram and Threads. On Telegram a post can be an album of up to 10 photos and videos, on Pinterest a Pin is one image, a carousel of 2 to 5 images or one video, on TikTok a post is one video of up to 10 minutes or a photo post of up to 35 images, and on Tumblr a post takes up to 10 images or one video. On Instagram and Facebook you can also publish a Reel, and share the same media as a Story alongside the post or Reel.

What files can I upload?

JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP and HEIC images up to 20 MB, and MP4, MOV and WebM videos up to 512 MB. Uploads go to the workspace’s content library, where you can sort them into folders, tag them and search for them later.

How do post templates work?

On Pro and Business, save any post as a template and mark the parts that change as {{fields}}. Using the template asks for those values with a live preview. You can leave a field for later; the composer highlights it and won’t publish until it’s filled.

Does the composer save my work?

Yes. Drafts save as you type, and each saved change becomes a new revision. If someone else changed the same post in the meantime, Postivate stops and lets you load the latest version instead of silently overwriting their work.

What happens if a network rejects a post?

When a network is busy or rate-limits the request, Postivate retries on its own. When it rejects the content, “Fix in a new draft” opens a copy with only the accounts that failed, so you can correct it without posting twice anywhere else.
