Free Instagram Caption Generator
Captions with a hook that works before “more”.
Describe the post in a sentence or two. You get three captions in the tone you choose, each with a first line that stops the scroll, a call to action and a few hashtags that fit, with a preview of the post.
alderandco
alderandco Autumn in a cup is back 🍂 Cinnamon, roasted pecans and dark chocolate, roasted in small batches…
About 125 characters show before “more”, so the first line has to do the work.
Your three captions show up here, with a live preview of the post above.
How it works
How to use the Instagram Caption Generator
- 1
Describe the post
What’s in the photo, Reel or carousel, and what you want people to know.
- 2
Pick a tone and a goal
Twelve tones, and a goal: comments, a visit to your link, a sale or a save.
- 3
Copy your favorite
The preview cuts each caption where Instagram does, so you can see if the hook lands.
Instagram caption rules
What makes an Instagram caption work
The generator writes with these in mind, so what you copy is ready to post.
- 1
About 125 characters before “more”
That’s all people see in the feed. The first line has to work on its own: a question, a bold claim or the most useful part.
- 2
Up to 2,200 characters
Long captions are allowed, but most posts do better with a few short lines. The generator stays well under the limit.
- 3
Links don’t click in captions
Instagram doesn’t turn links in captions into links, so the generator points to “link in bio” when your goal is a visit or a sale.
- 4
Five hashtags at most
Instagram allows five per post since December 2025. Specific ones say more about the post: the generator adds up to five, on their own line.
Caption ideas
Captions for every kind of post
Product posts
Lead with the feeling or the problem it solves, then the detail, then where to get it.
Reels
The video does the talking. A short line that adds context or a question for the comments is enough.
Carousels
Tell people why to swipe: “Five mistakes we made, and what we do instead.”
Behind the scenes
A small story in two or three lines, and a question that invites people to share theirs.

Instagram Caption Generator FAQ
Questions, answered.
How long can an Instagram caption be?
2,200 characters, including spaces, emojis and hashtags. Only about the first 125 show before “more”, so the generator puts the hook first.
Is the Instagram caption generator free?
Yes. You can generate captions without signing up. We only use what you type to write them and don’t store it.
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
Instagram allows five per post since December 2025, in the caption and comments together. The generator adds up to five specific ones. Turn hashtags off if you’d rather add your own.
Can I put a link in an Instagram caption?
You can type one, but it won’t be clickable. Put the link in your bio, or in a link sticker in Stories, and point to it in the caption.
Can I schedule the caption with the post?
Yes, with Postivate. Write the caption, add the photo, Reel or carousel, and schedule it for Instagram with approvals and a first comment if you want one.
