How to use the Username Checker
- 1
Type the handle
Without the @. We check it against every network’s rules first, so you know where it isn’t allowed.

See where it’s free
Each network shows available, taken or not allowed. Where a network can’t be checked from outside, you get a link to look yourself.
- 3
Claim it the same day
Handles go fast. Register on the networks you need before someone else does.

Username Checker FAQ
Questions, answered.
How does the username checker work?
We ask each network. Bluesky and X tell us whether a handle can be registered. On the others we look for an account with that handle: if there’s none, it’s most likely free. Networks also hold some names (reserved words, suspended accounts, handles someone just changed), so confirm when you sign up.
What’s the difference between “Available” and “Likely free”?
“Available” means the network itself says the handle can be registered. “Likely free” means no account uses it right now; the network may still hold it, for example for 14 days after someone renames their Instagram or 30 days after an X account is deactivated.
Why does it say “Check yourself” for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn?
Instagram, Threads, Facebook and LinkedIn only show profiles to people who are signed in, Discord has no public lookup, and Reddit’s lookup needs approved access. Rather than guess, we link you straight to the profile address so you can see in a second.
Why is a handle “not allowed” on some networks?
Every network has its own rules for length and characters. X needs 5 to 15 letters, numbers or underscores, while Instagram allows up to 30 and periods too. The checker shows which rule a handle breaks so you can adjust it.
Which Mastodon server do you check?
mastodon.social, the largest one. Each Mastodon server has its own usernames, so a handle can be free on one server and taken on another.
Is the username checker free?
Yes. There’s no sign-up and no limit for normal use.
Do you save the usernames I check?
No. We only use the handle to run the check. Answers are kept for a few minutes so a repeat check is instant, then dropped.
